A skilled workforce drives success.

White County, Tennessee, knows how important a skilled workforce is to business success. Local government and industry have partnerships in place with area colleges to develop specialized training programs to meet targeted workforce needs and ensure a steady pipeline of qualified candidates. A new, state-of-the-art mechatronics training facility, along with the White County High School Career Academy, will develop programs tailored to companies that locate here. The county also works with the Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency to provide skill assessment and targeted training to help businesses find the workforce they need and keep them competitive.

Sparta and White County are home to 15 large companies with a combined workforce of more than 2,200 workers. Industrial growth from 1997 through 2006 included three new companies and existing industry expansions, resulting in an increased workforce of nearly 1,500 employees.

Tennessee is leading the way in education reform by increasing the number of Tennesseans with college degrees or certifications through the Tennessee Promise and TN Reconnect. As the only state in the country with these initiatives, Tennessee promises employers the support of highly skilled workers.

Schools & Education

Our trained workforce starts with our highly ranked schools, where test scores rank consistently above national and state averages. Approximately 75% of our secondary school teachers hold advanced degrees.

Postsecondary options include Motlow State Community College in Sparta, Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, a four-year engineering university, as well as several additional community college options within 30 miles.
